How to stop the resistance, stop procrastinating and start doing.

Why am I continuing to procrastinate? Why can I not take action? How to stop resistance.

For writers, procrastinating can easily turn into an occupational hazard. If you suffer from procrastination, you have asked yourself the question, “Why do I procrastinate?”. Answering this question is essential in determining what causes you to procrastinate and therefore identify how best to remedy it. As a small business owner, it is critical to create and put out content regularly to ensure consistency. Consistency helps govern quality control and increase monetization opportunities. But first things first, identify what drives your anxiety.

Anxiety and Obsessive Perfectionism

As an anxious procrastinator, you are most prone to push off work due to poor time management. Procrastination can serve as a coping mechanism devised to deal with the anxiety that comes from starting or completing the task. Anxious procrastinators Often bite more than they can chew and end up feeling overwhelmed by the sheer amount of work they have to do. Another reason for your procrastination could be excessive perfectionism. The fear drives you to believe that you cannot work on a task unless you are fully satisfied that you can fully deliver to your liking. For example, if you are tackling a new blog topic, you may be afraid to create content because you do not feel competent enough to deliver quality work to your readers.

The remedy to this is to schedule in rest time and fun activities before including work. Doing so elevates pressure from the expectation of delivery. Additionally, developing an attitude that recognizes all of your work as complete pieces, and allows you to accept and publish, helps remove the pressure that comes with perfectionism.

The Illusion of Time and Lack of Focus

Sometimes you may assume that you have more than enough time to complete a task. The results are that you end up waiting until the last minute or just before the deadline to begin on the task, and the obvious consequences are a poorly done and rushed job. Surprisingly, the knowledge that completion of the task will be beneficial does not sway your decision to put it off. As a 'plenty of time' procrastinator, sometimes you could also suffer from a lack of focus.

As a small business owner, you may be distracted by thoughts of money and how to make it fast and easy that you lose focus on the work that necessarily needs to go into your content for you to blog for profit. The lack of focus also arises from a lack of goals or targets.

One of the ways to remedy this is to continually practice the art of setting deadlines and goals for yourself and sticking to them. Sharing your set deadlines with your colleagues, friends, family, and sometimes your audience creates a system of accountability that motivates you to deliver. Goals and deadlines keep you motivated and keep you on track. You can start by creating simple lists such as action plans and to-do-list, which narrate the tasks set out for each day or week, and your desired business goals.

Multiple Distractions and Stimulation

The availability of multiple distractions around you has you doing many other things other than the particular task. Distractions seem more exciting and, in this day and age, are all around us. Rather than fight the urge to procrastinate, you can opt to procrastinate but in a quick beneficial manner. Even though you do not start on the set-out task, you can embark on another task that sparks your interest and create a win-win scenario.
